.~.~How to Play~.~.
This game exists in three files due to the ZZT file size limit. NYACARN2 is a massive open-world adventure, while NYACARN1 contains the entire introduction, and NYACARN3 the ending cutscenes.

The overwhelming majority of the game consists of exploration/interaction/quests, as well as some cutscenes. Use the arrow keys to move around and run into NPCs and objects to interact with them. Every interactible object has at least two interactions, and I tried to make as many things interactible as possible within ZZT's constraints. While interacting with most NPCs/objects is optional, and cutscenes are fully skippable, it's like reading a book in that you can freely skip pages whenever you want, but you'll only be confusing yourself.

Please see https://macula.koshka.love/carnival/hints.html if you need help.

.~.~.~Notes~.~.~.
Even if you played the demo, I ***HIGHLY*** recommend starting the game from scratch. NYACARN1 features a number of plot-important changes, additional places to explore, and a cutscene at the end thoroughly introducing Nyarlathotep and Galeam.

There are two secret boards in NYACARN2; one that is relatively easy to find, and one in Bunnyvale that requires finding a series of other secrets to unlock.

The open-world portion of the game takes place across the Eye of Kadath, Avenir Avenue, and Bunnyvale USA. The Eye of Kadath, as well as the interior of Nyarlathotep's House in Bunnyvale are ONE-WAY TRIPS. It's impossible to leave them without acquiring any quest-required items, but you may lock yourself out of certain interactions, so tread accordingly.

This game is extremely heavy on 90s American popular culture. Prior knowledge of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and 90s DOS games (especially DooM) is highly recommended, and prior knowledge of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Boy Meets World is gently encouraged.

Look out for Part 2: Silent Nightmare, coming in 2026! (:
